Curriculum Intent

At The GFC School, our mission is to offer a curriculum that develops resilience, both in learning and in life.  We offer a holistic pedagogy, empowering students to utilise their academic learning in support of their cultural and social development across the whole curriculum. We aim to deliver a rounded education, focusing on the ‘whole child’ through social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development – building emotional intelligence and the confidence to become independent thinkers.

Approaches to learning

A curriculum that is personalised to offer challenge and support to all learners, continuously reviewed and adapted

Wide-ranging assessment that is fit for purpose and informs teaching and learning

Curriculum that is relevant, purposeful, and matched to a learner’s abilities and needs

Gap-filling interventions ensuring progression in all subjects

Development of a positive and independent attitude and enjoyment of learning

Layered courses to ensure learning sequencing is holistic and skills are contextualised by addressing in them in a broad range of subjects
Continuous curriculum

Ensure there is a clear flow of learning from Key Stage three to four following robust and diagnostic baseline testing

Teach progressive skills that are revisited and revised across subjects

Clear tracking systems to monitor progress from years 7 – 11 with clear interventions

Strong focus of vocabulary development across the school

PSE curriculum encompasses both key stages ensuring social, cultural development through RSE, Prince’s Trust and Citizenship

Enrichment curriculum

Acknowledgement of the Convention for the Rights of the Child, threaded throughout the curriculum ensuring all students know their Rights.

A holistic education, focusing on the ‘whole child’ through social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development – building emotional intelligence and the confidence to become independent thinkers. 

PSE curriculum promotes development of an understanding of the wider world through a robust focused curriculum.

Topic teaching in Key Stage three ensures a deeper understanding of global issues and events whilst encouraging cross-curricular learning and transferable skills

Student voice and agency are key aspects of developing a strong sense of worth

Develop learning: Ensuring students gain a depth of knowledge that empowers them and enhances their skills and understanding.   

Develop the character: Learners to cultivate a holistic set of values that prepares them for life in the modern world, respectful of global issues

Develop effective learning behaviors: Through recognising learning behaviors, and developing them across all aspects of learning. 

Develop global citizens: Ensuring our students understand global events and how they can affect change by using their voice.
