Travel and Tourism

 

In Key Stage 4 students undertake the BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Travel and Tourism. Within this course there are four units of study, 75% of the overall grade is based on coursework and 25% is based on an externally assessed exam.

 

Unit 1 – The importance of Travel and Tourism

This unit looks at the importance of travel and tourism within the UK economy and the key organisations within the sector.

This unit is 100% externally examined with the exam lasts for 1 hour 15 minutes and contains 60 marks.

The examination consists of a variety of question types, including objective questions, short-answer questions and extended writing questions. Students will need to both demonstrate and apply their knowledge and understanding.

 

Unit 2 – UK Travel and Tourism

This unit requires students to study the appeal of the UK to both inbound and domestic tourists. 

This unit is 100% coursework and includes producing a series of maps, a brochure to outline the appeal different destinations and bespoke itineraries for a range of customers to different locations.

 

Unit 3 – Customer Service

This unit looks into what companies working within travel and tourism do to provide the best customer service possible to their clients.

This unit is 100% coursework and includes producing case studies on examples of customer service used by real world companies and what it means to provide good customer service.

 

Unit 4 – International Travel and Tourism

This unit requires students to look further afield within Travel and Tourism. They investigate a range of destinations that tourists can go to both in Europe and beyond.

This unit is 100% coursework and includes producing a series of maps, a brochure to outline the appeal different destinations and bespoke itineraries for a range of customers to different locations.
