Ethos

The GFC School’s focus is on supporting, engaging and raising the aspirations of every student. We deliver a curriculum that develops resilience, both in learning and in life by empowering each student to utilize their academic learning to support their cultural and social development.

We aim to deliver a rounded, holistic education, focusing on the ‘whole child’ through social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development – building emotional self-regulation and the confidence to become independent thinkers.

Our culture is shaped by the ethos of the Convention for the Rights of the Child, and we are currently working towards our UNICEF Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award. Our students are actively engaged in local and global campaigns, developing their understanding of both their own rights and the rights of others.  The principles of Article 29 ‘Goals of Education’ underpin the framework for our curriculum and we aim to teach courses that lead to meaningful qualifications that support this. All our students have access to courses that promote personal, social and emotional development.

We underpin these objectives by working hard to support not only our pupils, but also their families through engagement with our pastoral team and outside agencies as required.

Our progress on this journey is communicated through our termly newsletter, and more frequently our twitter feed – we also encourage active and open communication from all our students.
